I have a problem with my AZERTY keyboard (French) on my macbook pro.
On a such keyboard some characters are composed like
Alt+UP+L to get | (bar) or Alt+n to get asciitilde (~) or Alt+$ to get €.
Any help would be appreciated.

i found something that works for me: ctrl + alt
you mustn't try to use the Apple-Combinations for your Windows/Linux OS
instead you have to use the native combinations
as I posted here:
Ctrl + Alt + Q -> @
Ctrl + Alt + ß -> \ (on german keyboards ß is the key next to 0 [zero])
Ctrl + Alt + '+' -> ~
at least that's how it works on my german keyboard layout
