There's a 4.2.5? That's news to me... there was 4.2.1 to fix problems with OS X 10.8.2 on Ivy Bridge Macs, but there was no 4.2.3 or 4.2.5.
there was a test 4.2.5

I have a core i5 MBA with ML.

I have the same issue.

I open it and it just hangs.

I installed 4.2.4 and all my VMs are gone.

The data is there but they are not showing up.

Yes. I don't see how it's relevant though.

No SSD here and I bet it's not an issue of permissions. All my VMs (twelve) are displayed in the Virtualbox Manager (left side, in 2 groups) but when populating the info of the current VM (right side) it just take ages (first shows the general tab, then the preview... etc) and just stops/hangs.

And no extension installed on 4.2.6. The only extension I install (ex: in 4.2.4) is the "Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack".

I'm sorry. I meant any third party extensions installed on the Mac itself. There have been many an extension that has interferred with one program or another.

I can't say. I don't use afloat but you could always disable/uninstall it and see. Or you could try booting in safe mode.
I see the problem. I wish I knew what caused it.

Anyone thought of using VBoxManage to see whether VirtualBox is completely blocked/hung or just the GUI? Is it possible to start VMs, either via VBoxManage or with VirtualBox --startvm?

So far we have a problem with affects a small but non-zero number of people, no reproduction scenario, and no obvious clues...

Works fine (after installing the extension pack for my VMs using USB 2.0). Even going to Settings of the VM works fine!!
Only VBoxManager hangs.

BTW, I've uninstalled AFloat also and still hangs/blocks!

Virtualbox became completely useless for me on ML. No fix for the hang issue even with the latest upgrade. Is there any trick?
