Release date for VirtualBox 1.6.3?

Post by kbrunham »

Does anyone know the expected release date for VirtualBox 1.6.3?

There are some bugs I've been tracking that claim to be resolved in 1.6.3, but I can't find any mention of when that might be.

As far as I know 1.6.2 will be the next release.

As you can see here, the OSE is using this version number since yesterday:
http://virtualbox.org/changeset/9202

So it's only a matter of time until the binary-version is updated.

1.6.3 will never be released.

X.X.odd are development versions.
X.X.even are release versions.

So... the next maintenance release will be 1.6.2

The "word on the street" is that 1.6.2 is all wrapped up and ready for release, it just takes a little while to go through all the motions now that U.S. export restrictions apply (since Sun is a US company...)

So, all that to say... I'd be very surprised if 1.6.2 isn't out within a day or two. However, I'm just a user with no inside information... So take my words with a grain of salt...

US companies are not allowed to export software which contains cryptographic algorithms. One of the reason (I don't know if this is the only one) VBox falls under this law is that VBox ships openssl.

Of course I mean 'US companies are not allowed to export such kind of software to certain countries'...
