I am new at this but have followed instructions to the T. I am running Linux Mint 12 (Ubuntu 11.10) inside Windows using WUBI.exe. I added VirtualBox to the apt-get repositories and have the most current version and also the most current extension package available. The .iso I am attempting to use is from Android-x86 project and tried a early version and also an ICS build they have (released 1/4). I also tried a ChromeOS.vdi version yesterday and each time I START the VM I get the error below. If I can get this to work I plan to completely eliminate Windows altogether.
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine AndroidOS-x86.
The device helper structure version has changed.
If you have upgraded VirtualBox recently, please make sure you have terminated all VMs and upgraded any extension packs. If this error persists, try re-installing VirtualBox. (VERR_PDM_DEVHLPR3_VERSION_MISMATCH).
Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component: Console
Interface: IConsole {1968b7d3-e3bf-4ceb-99e0-cb7c913317bb}
Any help/advise is appreaciated..

Re: Device Helper Structure Version Changed
The extension pack version *must* match the installed version of VirtualBox.

Re: Device Helper Structure Version Changed
I was working on enabling USB stuff and got this error on a Windows XP guest. I turned off "Enable USB 2.0 (ECHI) Controller" and the machine started up normally.

Re: Device Helper Structure Version Changed
It may have worked, but it's not really a solution. The solution is to install the correct extension pack, then features (such as USB2) that are implemented in the extension pack will be available to VMs that need them.
