Volume not work

Post by Stamimail »

Dell Studio XPS 1647.
Volume Buttons (in multimedia buttons bar) don't work when a Vbox window is selected.

Where do you want them to work? They don't in the Guest, the Host responds to them, because they aren't send to the Guest.

The situation is exactly the opposite.
I want to play music in the Host, and doing with the Guest.
When Guest window selected, I can't mute the Host music or control volume of Host.
The Volume Buttons (in multimedia buttons bar) affect on the Guest not the Host.
It really disturb when you want to make the volume down or mute immediately.

Then it's a Windows thing. I don't have any of such issues on a Linux Host and varying Guests (Windows and Linux). Since I don't have a Windows Host, I can't help you further, sorry.

Strange.
By the way, also feature of: Windows button + UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT buttons - for maximize minimize etc. doesn't work when a VM Window selected.

They work on the Host instead? They should work in the Guest. They do for me, and it even works like that when I don't use a VM and RDP to a server (either through rdesktop or xfreerdp/remmina).

Windows is one weird OS.

The situation is like this:
They work on the Host.
They work on the Guest too.
But, when the window of the Guest is selected (where is written: ... [Running] - Oracle VM VirtualBox), instead of maximize and minimize this window itself, it affects the internal windows of the Guest. Effect on the external window (VM) is expected.
BTW, when I'm dragging this window to corners it does work. But I can't do that with the Keyboard Shortcuts of Windows.

The behaviour that you're describing now is how it's supposed to work. If you want it to work on the Host, then press the Host key first to release the keyboard from the VM.

OK, I checked it again, and... I don't agree with how it works. It doesn't make sense to me. and I'm talking about the 2 issues:

1. Volume - the Master Buttons should affect the whole computer and programs (including VMs of VBOX). If someone wants to change seperately the volume of Windows Media Player etc. of the Guest and the Host, he should do it from these applications.

2. Windows Keys - VM window also need to be affected by those keys. If someone wants to control the inner windows, he should click in the inner part of the Guest Window to select them.

I can understand some people wants it like now, But VBox can't behave different from other applications. VBOX should make the default behaviour like other applications, and let the users to choose different behavior in "Options".

Please. Write down here your opinion.

Thank You.
BTW, What is the difference between here (community forums) and there (where you reported the bug).
Do I need to report about bugs there?

The forum is the first line and if unresolved or told to then you post to bugtracker.

But if you read the ticket you will see that is has a work-around and that is as far as they have taken it since the creation (3 years) and only two people have posted to the ticket. This means that it is not high on the priority list. Do not create a new ticket for this but add you reply to the original.

If you can't register for the bug tracker, then it's in read-only mode, ready for the OSSO migration that you can read about in the "Using VirtualBox" section.
