VB 4.1.6 don't recognize 64-bit CPU and VT-x\AMD-V extension

Post by alex256 »

Hi TEAM.

I tried to use 4.1.6 VB for run 64-bit guest OS-es, but recognition of 64-bit CPU and VT-x\AMD-V extensions is not working properly. When I run Virtual_Machine for 64-bit guest OS, I have the following message prior the VM is start:
VT-x/AMD-V hardware acceleration has been enabled, but is not operational. Your 64-bit guest will fail to detect a 64-bit CPU and will not be able to boot.
Please ensure that you have enabled VT-x/AMD-V properly in the BIOS of your host computer.
I double checked VT-x\AMD-V feature in BIOS - it enable!
My system's properties is:

The error indicates that VirtualBox sees the flag but for some reason can't use it. Do you also have XP mode installed?
Another issue may be a security setting in your bios. Trusted Execution Technology & Execute Disable Bit

Hi Perryg!

Thank you for your attention.

I will check all security settings and will inform you about. But this problem was raised, when I upgrade my 4.0.<don't remember> VB to 4.1.6
On 4.0.x there was no any issues with 64bit VMs.

May be some additional logs/debugs can be collect regarding this error?

Regards,
Alexey.

Additional checks were added in VirtualBox to help eliminate any potential critical problems.
Hopefully this is what you are actually seeing and correcting bios entries will fix your issue.

If not then we are going to need to see the guests log file (as an attachment)

Hi Perryg!

The problem was solved by disabling "Execution Prevention" flag in BIOS. Now, all working fine.

Thank you very much for you help!

Best regards,
Alexey.
