Re: Host Audio Not Responding?
How about reading the last sentence in the error message?

Re: Host Audio Not Responding?
I'm not the OP, but I have this same problem. The only audio error I'm seeing in the logs is concerning opening up the input devices(mic and line-in). I don't understand why it's trying to open these exclusively anyway.Y E T I wrote:How about reading the last sentence in the error message?
I've tried enabling and disabling exclusive access to the sound card in Windows 7 as well as running VirtualBox as an administrator. Nothing I've tried gets rid of this issue00:00:03.905 Audio: Trying driver 'dsound'.

Re: Host Audio Not Responding?
I did not have this before 4.0.10... but since upgraded to 4.0.10 I am having this error too on my existing machines that were working fine.
upgraded now to 4.0.12 and still having this error. so I have no idea.
However... I can listen to guest sounds... so I don't know what this warning means.

Re: Host Audio Not Responding?
I have the exact same problem and same error message
running Virtual Box 4.1.0, this is my first installation. Windows 7 Professional host OS, Windows 98 guest.
Tried installing the Guest Additions but received an error that they will not install on this version of windows (not sure if that referred to host or guest OS!)
thanks for any clues

Re: Host Audio Not Responding?
I have seen this error very long time always when starting any guest on my W7 host. The log shows similar as shown in one of the previous messages.
I solved my problem this way:
I plugged my headphones + microphone onto the computer (there was none before) and now I do not see the error anymore!

Re: Host Audio Not Responding?
I had the same problem. Plugged my earphones. Works like a dream now.
Re: Host Audio Not Responding?
Just chiming in with a "I also have this issue". I had ported over two VMs from a Windows 10 host over to an OSX host, and all sound worked fine... Until I upgraded to VB 5.1.2, and now I get the sound error at boot (and subsequently, no sound) for both VMs.
I'm using El Capitan 10.11.6 as the host, and the VMs are Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7 SP1.

Re: Host Audio Not Responding?
I have this issue too. I had installed WinXP VMs on iMac (VB 5.0.24) host and Windows 10 (VB 5.0.22) host, all sound worked fine. but when i installed VB 5.1.2 on MacAir (Host) EL Capitan 10.11.6, WinXP VM guest, i got alert "The virtual machine execution may run into an error condition as described below. We suggest that you take a appropriate action to avert the error".
When i downgraded from VB version 5.1.2 to 5.0.24, no waring message, and sound is back.

Re: Host Audio Not Responding?
So you're using an OS X host and that's why you're posting in the Windows host section of the forum, did I get that right?

Re: Host Audio Not Responding?
Yes, they both are. I'm not sure if I should simply point them to the OSX hosts discussion (Sound doesn't work on VB 5.1.2), to the bug reports (#15659, #15660) or if I should move their messages to the appropriate thread. I think I'll just point them for the moment...
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
