I'm having issues running a Virtualbox Guest VM at the same time as the Windows Phone 7 emulator. Running the Windows Phone 7 emulator Guru's VirtualBox and Running Virtual Box while the Emulator is running crashes Windows. Vbox Log and Screen Shot attached attached. I have tried with both VT-x extensions turned on and off.
System:
Windows 7 Professional (x64) Service Pack 1 (build 7601)
Install Language: English (United States)
System Locale: English (United States)
Dell Inc. Precision T1500 00
2.80 gigahertz Intel Core i7 860
32 kilobyte primary memory cache
1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache
8192 kilobyte tertiary memory cache
64-bit ready

Hyper-threaded (8 total)
Board: Dell Inc. 0XC7MM A01
Bus Clock: 133 megahertz

Hope this information is beneficial.

Has anyone else ran into this situation? Anyone?

Re: Virtual Box & Windows Phone Emulator
The general rule is that you can't run two virtualization engines at the same time.

Re: Virtual Box & Windows Phone Emulator
I know of existence of incompatible software with VirtualBox. See Wish #6057

Re: Virtual Box & Windows Phone Emulator
Thank you. That makes more sense than a "general rule".

Re: Virtual Box & Windows Phone Emulator
It's a "general rule" because I'm not specifically familiar with Windows Phone Emulator - but most applications which are in fact VM engines (even if not explicitly sold as such) are incompatible with other VM engines, because they rely on processor features not mediated by the host OS and therefore not easily shared, tested for being already in use, etc.

Re: Virtual Box & Windows Phone Emulator
Both "engines" are attempting to access hardware virtualzation, either way both should detect virtualzation hardware is in use before accessing such hardware.

Not necessarily, if you look at history of incompatibility, look at coLinux case. coLinux didn't use VT-x, nevertheless it was incompatible with vboxdrv. New versions of coLinux contain a check, that checks for VT-x presence.
Several other drivers is incompatible with VirtualBox way of doing networking (vboxnetflt), that is also not related to VT-x.
