CD-ROM under MS-DOS 6.2

Post by CptGreenwood »

Hi,

can somebody tell me how I can access the CD-ROM drive under a DOS guest? Long times ago  I had a manufacturers install disk which installed drivers and changed config.sys and autoexec.bat.

You will have to find MSCDEX CD-ROM drivers for DOS, and modify autoexec.bat and config.sys yourself.

Hint:
Use Win98 "create boot floppy" feature, then copy it's contents to your DOS.

MSCDEX.EXE is not really the problem as it was included with MS-DOS 6.x and above. The real problem is finding a semi-universal IDE/ATAPI CD-ROM driver.

As Technologov wrote, there should be a usable one on a Win98 boot floppy. Alternately, there is also one on the FreeDOS install CD.
