ipod aborts virtual machine
Hello,
When I connect my ipod nano 5g to the windows 7 virtual machine it gets aborted in seconds. If I uninstall the ipod drivers (Apple Mobile Support) no problem occurs (of course then I cannot use the ipod).
Using archlinux x86_64, virtualbox 4.0.0, windows 7 x86_64, latest version of itunes (same problem also occurs with 9.2.1) and no extension pack (but problem also occurs with extension pack installed). Problem occurs even if Windows is in safe mode. The previous version of virtualbox (3.x) worked fine with this same configuration.

Re: ipod aborts virtual machine
same problem here.
I'm using Arch Linux and (obviously) the same version of virtualbox 4.0.0-3. My guest OS is Windows xp (sp3) though.
I can use usb normally, but when it comes to my ipod nano (6g though). Windows crashes.
I got no clue what to look for at this moment.
The log file simply says:

I was having that problem also until I checked the box in USB setup for USB 2.0 support.

Where would that checkbox be? Can't find it ... (if it is a checkbox you're talking about - otherwise please tell me more precisely what you did)seanhawkes wrote:I was having that problem also until I checked the box in USB setup for USB 2.0 support.

USB 2 is in the extension pack. Without this only USB 1.x is available.

I have the extension pack installed. Is there anything else to configure?

Reporting the same problem as fourreux (details are identical). Also have no
idea what checkbox is being refered to for USB 2.0.

Fourreux: Okay I solved this for myself so this will probably work for you. Install
virtualbox_bin from the AUR (I used the latest version 4.0.0) and in the machine settings
on the USB tab there will be a checkbox for USB 2.0 as mentioned above. Checking this
solved the problem for me.

Even with virtualbox_bin from AUR and USB 2 checked problem still persists.

Re: ipod aborts virtual machine
I'm having this same issue using Ubuntu 10.10. Whenever I connect my iPod Nano in it crashes VirtualBox. I have upgraded to 4.0.2 and have the USB 2.0 box checked.
[SOLVED] Extensions pack was not installed. Download from virtualbox.org and then install by going to file, preferences, and extensions, then there is a little button on the right to install new extensions; or simply double-clicking the file (didn't work for me).

Re: ipod aborts virtual machine
Hello,
I have
- iPod Nano 4G 16GB
- host: Ubuntu 10.10 (on a Sony Vaio VGN series laptop)
- Intel VT-x enabled in BIOS
- VirtualBox 4.0.4 r70112 with VT-x enabled
- guest: Vista 32 Home with all updates and Guest Additions v4.0.4 r70112 installed
- iTunes 10.2.1.1
and everytime I plug in the Nano it aborts the Vista virtual machine immediately. I'm clueless. I'm willing to believe this is an user error as Google gives so little amount of hits on this that I feel being alone here..
Can anybody help me?

Re: ipod aborts virtual machine
My apologies. It took me this long to figure out that Extensions Pack does not equal to Guest Additions.. All should be fine now.
