USB Broadband not detected

Post by JohnChristy »

Hi,

I think this is the correct place to ask this, if not my bad :)

I'm using VirtualBox with XP guest os installed. The problem is when i connect my main OS (win7) using mobile broadband (USB broadband) my guest os is not getting connected to the internet.

When i use cable connection im getting connected to the internet automatically. Can anyone suggest me an idea to use mobile broadband in my guest OS?

Thanks
John

This is difficult. First you must cut the connection in the host, so that the device is free.

Then the device must be shown in the vbox usb devices menü, when gast is started. There you can select it.

Another way is to establish an usb filter before the guest is started.

Dont know exact about this device. But there are many known devices and device classes like webcams and some printers/scanners not working with USB.

What do you mean with "Cable Connection". Do you mean the virtual network or the device connected with lan cable?

Again: What do you mean with LAN?

Have you tried the modem connect viua USB to the host, host establishes internet connection, guest uses internet connection with virtual NAT adapter?

LAN is : I used to connect via a cable (DSL connection) from my router to my main OS - win7. at that time if i run virtual box, my virtual windows getting connected to the internet by default.

i filtered USB, still its not working with the guest OS. all i want is, now my main os is connected to the internet using mobile broadband. now i need internet access to my virtual guest os.

Im using this dongle to connect to the internet :

Thats what i say. Let the Host establish the Internet Connection. Then normally you only need to setup a nic in the guest settings with the type NAT. Then the guest is able to use the internet connection from the host.

Becker, thanks for the info, but im new to this virtual OS.

I couldnt understand 2 things :

1)Let the Host establish the Internet Connection
2)Setup a nic in the guest settings with the type NAT

Can you pls advise me how exactly i can do these?

Thanks

The host must connect to the internet, so that yo are able to surf on the host.

And then open the vbox guest sttings. In the network section you can change the type of the network adapter between hostonly, bridged and nat. NAT is the right option for your approach.
