Sound not working

Post by alanbur »

I've just installed virtualbox on Solaris build 82, with WinXP as the client OS and everything seems to work, with the exception of sound (yes I've enabled it). The host audio driver shows up as 'Null Audio Driver', is that the cause of the problem?

Heya,

yes, that is the problem. VirtualBox does only support ALSA, OSS and PulseAudio(well, that DirectSound an [MacOS X sound system], too).
Is it possible to run ALSA/OSS/PulseAudio on Solaris? Or maybe its possible to use the native Solaris sound system, I don't know.

I understand from one of my colleagues that the sound drivers aren't yet available on Solaris, certainly the output of VBoxManage seems to indicate that is the case:

Code: Select all

$ VBoxManage
:
                            [-audio none|null]

let's hope this is fairly easy (assuming one uses oss on the solaris host).
i run nevada 81 with the oss sound drivers and get only the null output driver as well. so maybe this can be fixed in the next beta?
