VT-x / AMD-V hardware acceleration is not available

Post by highwaykind »

I've got a dualboot with 2 harddisks installed, one with Windows 7, one with OSX.
It's a PearC system with weird looking RAM strips.

I have Virtualbox installed on my Win7 machine and I'm trying to create an OSX guest from an ISO file. (I successfully created an Ubuntu one that's working fine).
It's complaining that
VT-x / AMD-V hardware acceleration is not available on your system. Certain guests (eg. OS/2 and QNX) require this feature and will fail to boot without it.
I'm pretty sure my hardware is already fully supporting OSX since I can easily switch OS's by booting into a different hard drive. (OSX on harddrive is 10.5, ISO is 10.6 - can that be the cause???)

I already went through every option in my BIOS but couldn't find anything that said hardware acceleration.

First, the mods here are going to tell you that OS X is only supported on OS X Server hosts and that they do not allow discussion of this invalid scenario.

Now, VT-x/AMD-V is virtualization support that your cpu may or may not have which would not be relevant when you boot OS X directly. If it is required as it seems to be for OS X guest then your cpu must have it and you must enable it in the VM settings. If your cpu does not have it then you are out of luck running OS X in VBox.

I'm not sure what you mean with 'invalid scenario'?
I just don't see why I can run a host OSX but not a guest OSX on this machine.

VirtualBox only supports OSX server as guest due to licensing restrictions.
