Microsoft Zune on VirtualBox with USB 2.0

Post by jasonburns »

I have a Microsoft Zune 30GB and I am trying to run Microsoft's Zune software in Ubuntu Gutsy. I know this is near impossible. So I installed the closed source version of VirtualBox that supports USB 2.0. I decided on Windows XP since I have a licensed retail version laying around not doing anything. The installation went well. I followed the extra steps to enable USB support for VirtualBox as instructed in their tutorial. I can see my USB devices in VirtualBox's menu now. I installed the Zune software and that went well. It runs fine. I plugged in my Zune, selected it in my USB list in VirtualBox's list, but nothing happened in Windows. My Zune software and XP both don't acknowledge that the Zune is connected. My Ubuntu sees it and pops up my default media player. I close that and go back to VirtualBox, but see nothing. It is listed and selectable in VirtualBox's USB list. Any ideas?
