VirtualBox and .NET Framework

Post by Entropy »

Hi,

I'm trying to install .NET Framework 2.0 on my Win XP guest and it just won't work. I get following message error during installation:

EventType : visualstudio8setup P1 : 183 P2 : 8.0.50727.42_rtm_x86ret
P3 : msi P4 : inst P5 : f P6 : installvalidate P7 : -
P8 : 1601 P9 : - P10 : -

I'm running VB 2.3.8 on Mandriva 2010.

If anyone can help,

Thanks by advance

Is this the runtime from Windows/Microsoft Update or the development environment?

It's only the Microsoft runtime I need for one of my fave applications. I've benn trying with 3.5, 2.0, 1.1, with or without the language pack; even 1.1 would not work.

How is the guest config? Enough RAM and free HD?

Hi,

The guest config is:
- 2 GB of RAM (which makes half of my total 4 GB)
- 6 GB free HD on a total of 8 GB.

Thanks for your replies.

Thats enough. Have you tried it via Windows Update? If not, then try it.

Putting visualstudio8setup P1 : 183 P2 : 8.0.50727.42_rtm_x86ret in Google shows a lot of things. Like the one below.

This is more than likely a Windows problem. I had something close to this on a Windows XP pro SP3 update and had to jump through all kinds of hoops to get it fixed. It was a Microsoft installer error.

It is with 100% certainty a Windows problem as all of my Windows VMs (XP and 7) have the framework runtimes without any issues. Heck, I even need the framework to run nLite to customize XP install discs and that works flawlessly.
