[Solved] VMs not booting: error 0x80BB0005 - directory mixup

Post by fragezeichen »

Since yesterday afternoon, suddenly VirtualBox stopped booting VMs.

After starting a virutal machine, immediately I get an error Message

Code: Select all

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine blablabla.

Could not launch a process for the machine blablabla
(VERR_ACCESS_DENIED)

Result Code:

Unfortunately I don't get any Log files about this error.

Yesterday morning I updated to Version 3.2.6 and first everything worked fine.
Then suddenly after Lunch, no chanche to boot anything, only error messages since then.

Even with freshly created empty VMs this happens.
Host System is Windows XP.
Changing language didn't help.
Changing standard paths didn't help either.
I tried to reinstall VirtualBox 3.2.6 but I got Error 1641 as described under
http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/7050

Then I deinstalled VirtualBox completely and deleted everything, all remaining xml etc. under c:\
rebooted my PC and installed VirtualBox from scratch, next reboot.
Same error when I try to boot a newly created VM.
Unfortunately, I didn't find a log file of the installation.

Searching didn't help really, all I found to this error was old stuff from Virutal Box version 1.5 or 2.x or when it was newer, it mostly was about Linux Hosts and access rights or Vista 64 and wrong Install directory like described in 2008 http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?p=45435

The VM probably isn't the problem, it is working perfectly under VMWare Player - I converted it using CloneVdiGui.

Now I'm kind of clueless what to try next beside using VMWare or waiting for a new Version of VirtualBox.

Any Ideas what could help?
Thanks

Problem is solved by installing VirtualBox in a different directory!

As suggested in http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?p=45435
I installed VirtualBox again, this time in a different directory. That solved the problem!

I omitted the Oracle part in the installing path, that helped ;-)

Now it works again!

The new VMs start as well as the old one... no more errors

:-)

I'm just kind of curios why this install folder bug of 2008 appears still/again in 2010...
