Hi. I have installed a Windows XP guest on a Ubuntu host, with shared folders. These shared folders work ok, except that date/time attributes are lost when I copy a file into a shared folder.
Is there a way to work around that problem ?
Many thanks !

Re: preserving file attributes in shared folders
What date info are you talking about? File creation date, modification date, last accessed time? Aren't most of those values different when you copy it to a different location?

I am talking about the modification date, which normally is unchanged when I copy a file through any of the file managers that I use, in Ubuntu or Win XP. Only when a file is copied to a \\VBOXSVR\..... drive in the Win XP host of my Virtual Box, does its modif. date changes. This is very annoying since I then loose the date at which this file was last edited. Thanks for your help in solving this pb !

Re: preserving file attributes in shared folders
What happens if you set up a Samba share on the Host and connect to it with your Windows VM and put files in it? Does the date information change too? It's quite possible that Windows changes this information when dealing with network locations.

Re: preserving file attributes in shared folders
No, Windows normally does not change this info through network drives. I have network drives on the WinXP guest, and I also tested a Samba access to the Ubuntu host, in all cases original modification dates are preserved.Sasquatch wrote:What happens if you set up a Samba share on the Host and connect to it with your Windows VM and put files in it?
