How to get AutoCAD to run properly on XP 32-bit.

Post by DvineD »

Hi.

We run 64-bit xp's as Host-
And XP 32-bit as Guest.

I've installed the Guest addons in safemode (this should enable the 3d accel, I've been told).

I've enabled both the 2d and 3d - don't know if that is a problem.

I gave the guest 4 GB of ram (Host has 12) - however, I am only able to decide how much 2d ram it can have - but it has a nvidia with 1gb, a quadro card - And nowhere can I decide how much of this can be given to the guest machine.

Atm. AutoCAD won't start.

1. How can I test if the guest is allowed to use the 3D card accell?? Is there a test or something I can run.
2. Does anyone have a guide on how they made AutoCAD work in VirtualBox XP enviroment?

Thanks in advance, and fantastic product.

Im afraid it's not very usefull.

It just sais, it might need a reinstall or you lack admin rights.

the admin rights is there, and it's installed through an installation point done by NTI people.

Today I'll try to install it manually.

But I don't know how to test if the 3D is working! The GFX is Nvidia quadro 3800, with 1gb of ram. When you enable 2d/3d I can choose to share from 1-128 mb.

Do you need to install the video card drivers for nvidia in the guest? I seem to read that this is what is usually done??? But it already found some generic normal driver for GFX.

Any help would be nice.

Since your guest does not have an nVidia Graphics card, installing drivers for one would be pointless. IMHO, you should be asking AutoCAD questions in an AutoCAD support forum.

Autocad does not support VirtualBox display driver directly - only Parallels is supported for VMs.

If video card is not supported, Autocad will use its own software driver, but you could try to use OpenGL instead.

Just crank up the video memory to 128MB.

Mpack; According to this forum, it does work. The card I mention in these machines should not be any different than any other 3d card supported in the VM's. AutoCAD does not support VMs. But it does work, therefore I ask.

Jorgensen; Hmmm, I'll try. I think I have, with no good outcome.

How can I be sure that 3D is working in the VM? What do you use as a test.

dxdiag at Run.

The VB 3D driver must be installed in safe mode.
