Guest Additions issue since upgrade to 3.1.0

Post by nathdad72 »

Hi all

I had Solaris 10 Update 8 64-bit running under 3.0.12 without any major issues.

Had my screen running at 1280x800.

Since upgrading to 3.1.0 and its Guest Additions, my 1280x800 does not stick across reboots.

Anyone else seeing this?

Thanks,

Jon

Since upgrading to 3.1.0, I have not had Solaris guest addition problems with a Sol 10 u8 64-bit guest on a 32-bit WinXP host.

However, I just copied my Solaris VM to a WinXP 64-bit host, and I am having terrible screen resizing problems, just like you. On the new host, my screen is 1280x1024, and I cannot get the guest to automatically resize automatically as I have before. On each logoff/logon, I have to host-f/host-g several times to get the screen to auto resize, which usually kills GNOME at least once. The resizing does not hold upon guest reboot.

I installed the 3.1.0 Solaris GA package when the VM was on the 32-bit host. Should I remove and re-install the GA on the new host?

Booting the Solaris VM with 32-bit kernel appears to fix the window sizing issue.

Sometimes, booting with the 64-bit kernel yields the expected screen resolution, but most of the time it does not.

Since updating to the 3.1.0 GA, I have no control over Solaris screen sizing at all anymore. Guest completely disregards all attempts to resize. Vista x64 host, Solaris 10U8 x64 guest.

I seem to have managed a workaround, and I now get 1280x800 whilst booting in 64-bit Solaris.

As I added 1280x800 as mode in xorg.conf, I had always been able to select that once logged in.

I have found that if I don't select to make this valid for this host only, once I login the screen is resizing correctly.

This has persisted (touch wood) on both reboot, and power cycling the VM.

All that needs fixed for me now is the full screen mode. I can go to it, but back from it breaks and I need to restart X.

Update: It magically started working today. No clue why. Only changes I know of were the Microsoft "patch Tuesday" patches. I guess it's possible for it to work though.

I could not get the guest screen to resize properly without adding my monitor resolution to xorg.conf.
