VirtualBox USB can not be installed on Win 7 64 Bit Host
Hello everybody,
I´m running VirtualBox 3.0.8 (same problem with 3.0.6) on a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 it host (German edition!). Just upgraded from Vista Ultimate 64 bit (German edition too) where all was ok. Hardware is a Core 2 Quad Intel CPU (Q8300) with 2,53 GHz and 8 GB RAM. I´m using a guest with Win 7 RC 32 Bit (before someone asks: I don´t have a 64 Bit RC!). The guest has 2 GB RAM. At first (and still with VBox 3.0.6, which I had been running under Vista 64 Bit, due to frequent bluescreens in the guest with VBox 3.0. everything seemed ok after upgrading the host to Win 7. The VM was starting normal and there were no warnings, etc. When I experienced some bad performance of USB-Gear in the guest (i.e. a Philips Speechmike I, LFH 6274) I tried upgrading VBox to 3.0.8. While the VM still starts and runs normally, all USB support for the VM is gone. Changing back to VBox 3.0.6 doesn´t help. After installing VBox and starting the VM, the host tries to install "VirtualBox USB" driver but is not succesfull. The host displays a message saying that the driversoftware was not installed, added by "VirtualBox USB Device removed". Remember: I´m using a German Windows so the messagetext is my translation; the exact message may differ on nongerman editions of Windows, but the meaning ist translated correctly.
Uninstalling and reinstalling VBox does not help (either with 3.0.6 or 3.0.8; I tried it repeatedly). Uninstalling "VirtualBox USB" from the device manager does not help either. Originally "VirtualBox USB" was not even shown in the device manager, even with "show hidden devices" selected, since the host sees it as a disconnected device. I had to add the system variable devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1, before it was shown as a greyed out device, which then could be deleted. Needless to say, that I did boot my computer after each attempt to install / uninstall VBox, or USB-Drivers.
Has anybody a solution how to get the "VirtualBox USB" driver installed and working on Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit? Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

Re: VirtualBox USB can not be installed on Win 7 64 Bit Host
Found a post in bugtracker (Ticket #5129) claiming the VirtualBox USB driver problem would be fixed with VBox 3.0.10, wich was due to be released a couple of hours later. Tried today, but to no avail. Still the WIN 7 host looses contact to the virtual device VirtualBox USB during startup of the VM and aborts the driver installation. I can only hope, they will find a fix for it soon, since I don´t have the time to go back to vista (and frankly Win 7 is so much better than Vista in other aspects, that I just don´t want to loose Win / again).
Well, now it´s "wait and see".
If in the meantime someone has an idea for a workaround or something else, I´d appreciate any tipps.

Check the build number for 3.0.10, see release anouncement.

Buildnumber is 54097, downloaded this morning (somwhere around 10 am in Germany). The build has fixed the problem with the previous build of 3.0.10 from yesterday, which was crashing the VM during startup. The problem with the VirtualBox USB device (driver) remains.

Re: VirtualBox USB can not be installed on Win 7 64 Bit Host
Tried reinstalling Win 7 (to get rid of any possible problems resulting from upgrading Vista to Win 7), but it doesn´t help.
Is there really noone who can provide a solution???

Re: VirtualBox USB can not be installed on Win 7 64 Bit Host
Same problem here (Win 7 x64 US Ultimate)
Sometimes I am able to see the USB device in the guest if I create a device filter based on the device I want to connect.
I said sometimes, but same device/host/guest results different .
Using 3.0.10 (final)
The device is a simple USB memory stick.
USB support is the last thing that ties me to VMWare workstation, but having to renew the license due to the release of version 7, I'm trying to escape
Fix it please
I had the same problem with Vista x64 and previous (up to 3.0.6) virtualbox

Re: VirtualBox USB can not be installed on Win 7 64 Bit Host
Installed latest release of VB (3.0.10r54097) on Windows 7 Home Professional. Initially received some errors stating the program had stopped responding which was bogus as VB came up and ran anyway.
Installation is successful in that it is sharing my wired network connection and running Windows XP Pro in a VM. USB is working very well and I found one hint either on this board or another about placing at least one blank filter in the USB setup. I am using a Dell Smart Card reader keyboard, Dell optical mouse, an external USB hard drive and a Cherry ST-1000U smart card reader.
Machine Specs:
Dell Precision T7400
Single Quad-core 3.2GHz Xeon
8GB RAM
4 500GB hard drives
NVidia Quadro FX1700 display card

Re: VirtualBox USB can not be installed on Win 7 64 Bit Host
I think I have the same problem.
ENTIRE Computer hangs (including host).
Version: 3.0.10 r54097
after rebooting, windows diagnostics told that the problem was related to a USB driver failure.
Booting VMs without USB support appears to work fine (I'm a VirtualBox newbie)

Re: VirtualBox USB can not be installed on Win 7 64 Bit Host
Bonjour,
Mon PC : HP Pavilion Elite m9361.ch
Mon OS : Widows Vista X64 SP2 Edition familiale Premium
Virtual Box : 2.2.4

Re: VirtualBox USB can not be installed on Win 7 64 Bit Host
As maced suggested above, try adding a blank filter in the USB section of the machine settings (machine needs to be off for this).
Cheers,

To fix, just change the last to:
- Nom : AKS HASP 2.17 [0217]
- ID fabriquant : 0529
