Registration Box Invalid IP Address Failure

Post by daveynet »

Everytime I try to register VBox I get an "Failed to register Virtualbox product - Invalid IP address" and it appears everytime I start a virtual box. I'm running VBox on a windows XP host. Does anyone have idea how to register and solve this error? Thanks in advance.

What does the logs say about this? If it's a long log, use pastebin.

Where do you find log files in Windows XP

Post by daveynet »

Where can I find the log files in windows XP?
- I've tried the "documents and settings", ".VirtualBox" and virtual box program files folders, but not seen any logs.

Now that I think a bit more about it, you are trying to put your email address and send that when VB first starts. You really don't have to do this, you can skip it. It won't limit the options you have in VB. Do you have a firewall running? Maybe that is preventing VB to access the internet, or they changed IP address.

What version are you using anyway? It would be best to use either 1.6.6 or 2.0.2. If the IP is hard-coded, these versions will have the proper IP.

Version 1.6.4 and 2.0.2 Still can't register

Post by daveynet »

I was using version 1.6.4, but upgraded to 2.0.2. Even after disabling the windows firewall, I still get the IP address invalid error. Anyway after upgrading to version 2.0.2 it does not ask me to register everytime I start up a new VM so I'm quite happy not to register =)!

Thanks for the tips! I didn't realise that version 2.0.2 was out =)

You can always check for new versions every so often manually by visiting the website.

I did get the same error message - all I did was set the 'internet' and 'local' to 'off' on zone alarm - no more invalid IP - then reset my firewall settings.

I had the same problem using using Windows7 and avast antivirus. I temporarily turned off "web shield" and "network shield", and successfully registered. :wink:

VirtualBox 3.0.12 on Fedora 12 gave me the same error message when registering. The first time it looked like the two IP addresses listed in the dialog were both ones that I had at different times with my AT&T DSL (one being my current IP, the other being an older one).

I tried later and clicked to register 3 times. It gave me an error 2 times, but the IP2 listed was completely different in both dialogs. The first dialog said this:
Failed to register the VirtualBox
product.

Invalid IP address.
IP1='69.232.xx.xx',
IP2='82.230.3.97'
(the first was my current IP)

The second time the IP2 was a 216.x.x.x address. The third time it finally said the registration was successful.

Got the "Invalid IP address" message twice when I was inititially asked to register (version 3.1.2), so I clicked cancel.

Worked when I used Help | Register VirtualBox...
