Failed to create the VirtualBox COM object. need help!

Post by awirt04 »

Hey this is my first time on the forum so i apologize if this has been answered before. I have been using vb on mac os 10.4.11 for a while and i recently go this error.

Failed to create the VirtualBox COM object.
The application will now terminate.
Callee RC: NS_ERROR_FACTORY_NOT_REGISTERED (0x80040154)

I have no idea what this means or what to do. I really need to find a solution to this problem because i need to use windows xp for my business classes at school. I tried updating vb to the latest version and i still got the same error. Thanks in advance

This usually indicates a failed install. I really don't know why you got it on the other version unless you changed something.
You can try to reinstall the older version and select repair.
Then rerun the older version and select uninstall.
Finally install the newer version. DO NOT reboot between the processes but do reboot when this is complete. Make sure that you login name is in the vboxusers group.

Wait a minute. This is on a MAC sorry. If the above do not happen to work then you need to uninstall and then install.

You should not loose any of the machines that you have created. Now with that said I always tell everyone that they should have a backup of the VDI file just to be safe. If for some reason this goes bad you can always recreate the VM attach the original VDI file to the new created VM.

Yes. Go through the same process and try to install 3.0.0 since that was the one that was working.

It has to be a permission problem. Look at the link and see if sounds like something that could have happened to your install.

I am by no means a MAC expert but I believe that it is based off Linux to some extent. Other than that you are going to need to wait for a MAC person to reply.
