Host Only Adapter Problem,Please Help

Post by vivek1402 »

Host : Windows OS
Guest OS : Ubuntu

Problem : Cant see any Host Only Adapter in drop down menu in Settings=>Networks.
But can see VirtualBox Host only Adapter in Device Manager.
Also, In Adapter Properties from Network Connection ,have clicked the VirtualBox Bridged Networking Driver, Rebooted also , No Success.

I am trying to Install VirtualBox from Past 4 days, read previous posts in the forum about this problem , reinstalled different versions of Virtual box like 3.0.6=> 2.1.4=> 3.0.4 but no success. In Version 2.1.4, no Host Interface is listed in Settings=> Networks.

Can some body please help me in rectifying this problem ?

Thanks in Advance,

You may have confused things by installing multiple versions. I suggest you uninstall VBox completely, then reinstall either v3.0.4 or v3.0.6.

The feature called "Host Interface Networking" in v2.x had a name change and is now called "Bridged Adapter" in 3.x. "Host Only Adapter" is a new 3.x feature which did not exist in v2.x. I believe that installation of this feature is optional, so be careful to check the options presented to you during install.

It may help too if you tell us what you are trying to do.

I reinstalled it many times , also with uninstallation i deleted the folder ".Virtualbox" in folder C:/DocumentsandSettings/User which contained Configuration files/
Am i missing something to delete?

Also : While I try to do Repair the version 3.0. The error comes is :
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource which is unavailable.
Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path containing the installation package VirtualBox-3.0.6-r52128-MultiArch_x86.msi

Is there some problem in my Installation only??

Please let me know.

That error is probably because the .msi file was extracted to a temp folder and was removed after installation. It's best to do a repair from the installer file, instead of control panel.

In File > Preferences from the main GUI, do you have a virtual adapter there in the Network section? If not, create one. If you do, list exactly what you see in the VM preferences > Network > Attached to.. list.

That is the reason you didn't see the Host-Only adapter. I suggest you remove VB completely, reboot and remove the virtual adapter from device manager if it's left there. Then install VB again and hope for the best.
