Using full GPU on VM

Post by Me911 »

Regarding the following topic: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=81370

I have read many comments that say that there is no virtualization system that makes use of 100% of the GPU, this is not true, the current technology in both hardware (v-tx) and software (linux 4.10 or higher for the use of the GPU in virtualization and native nvidia drivers for linux) are ready for a virtual environment to work 100%.

Some cases and sources:
https://arrayfire.com/using-gpus-kvm-virutal-machines/
https://medium.com/@calerogers/gpu-virt ... ca98a6a172
https://fosspost.org/news/linux-kernel- ... pu-support
https://youtube.com/watch?v=dsDUtzMkxFk (setting a kvm enviroment over nvidia 1080 on linux host)
https://youtube.com/watch?v=0jdxf82miOA (gameplay on windows using kvm over nvidia 1080 on linux host)

I am a software developer and designer, linux works much faster than windows, that's why I program software in linux at the same time I use kvm with windows 10 and my adobe photoshop subscription and I can use 100% of my gpu, it's a nvidia gti 1060 of 3GB.

At least in Linux it is possible, I do not know if it is possible in mac or windows.

The conspiracy theories say that Microsoft pays good money to companies such as oracle, adobe and nvidia to slow or delay the development of technologies that allow using star software in other operating systems, such as the lack of photoshop for Linux and the most games known as mortal kombat xl because it is designed in unreal engine, an engine that has the ability to export a multiplatform game project (including linux), but only released for ps4 and windows.

What is clear is that it is not a problem of technical capacity, but it is probably a commercial problem.

Ch. 9.6. PCI passthrough of the User Manual. Enjoy...

Just don't ask for help. This is an advanced topic, only a few have attempted it, only one (maybe two) have done it, none has said it's worth it.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

What do you mean by 100%, does the GPU is already used with a known percentage ?

Best not to necropost, especially when the situation has changed. Since the above discussion was completed the devs have in VirtualBox 6.1.0:
  1. Added two completely new graphics controller emulations.
  2. Scrapped the not-useful PCI redirection feature (and deleted mention of it from the manual, which is why the "PCI passthrough" link above leads nowhere useful).
