Allow to modify and save settings while vm is on and running

Hi all,

I understand, that some settings could be applied only when vm is off or during restart. I do not mean to apply settings immediately. My idea is to save or somehow remember changed settings and apply them during next vm restart.

The use case is vm setup. I usually start vm, look what's wrong with it, then shutdown, wait until it's off, change settings, turn on, wait until started and check whether my changed helped or not. Repeat.
As you may see, with the current approach I have to pay a lot attention to the box. If for some reason shutdown/stratup is not quick or it needs to do multiple iterations, it becomes annoying.
With the proposed feature one could do whatever changes he wants, click restart and go grab a cookie instead of staring at the screen. It also might be useful if a setting require some data input which can be copied from vm.
