More Guest OS templates for Guided Mode

Post by Skog »

Hello.

I am a complete newbie, hope this suggestion is relevant.
It might apply mostly to Linux guests, but I am not sure. Please move the post if it is misplaced.

I have just tested VirtualBox for running Linux on Mac OS.
-And ran into a bunch of problems. Of course. :)

Most could have been avoided if I had known which settings to use.

For instance:
I installed Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon.
Chose Linux Ubuntu 64 as the guest profile on setup.
VDI was then recommended to be 10GB.
-And that halted the installation, since Linux Mint 18.3 requires 10,7GB...

To make it short, I got Linux Mint running perfectly after changing the settings to:
15GB VDI
2GB RAM
128MB Video Card RAM
3D Hardware support enabled

(And of course updating Linux and installing Guest Additions after installing.)

This took me a lot of searching and reading to figure out.
And to help others, I would want to suggest those settings as a template in Guided Mode.

As far as I can tell after googling around, this would fix a lot of install problems on different distros.
-And remove some redundant posts in forums...

Hope this post isn´t redundant! :D

Looking at the various releases blog posts this has changed from a minimum requirement of 9GB up to versions 18.1 and a jump to 15GB with version 18.2 albeit in both cases 20GB is recommended.

My crystal ball is currently broken. If you want assistance you are going to have to give me all of the necessary information.
Please don't ask me to do your homework for you, I have more than enough of my own things to do.
