I just tried to make a post containing the common TLA which begins "U" and is a synonym for "link to a web page", only to be told "You must be a member for 1 day and have 1 post before you can post [the forbidden TLA]s". I can understand the reason for this (to prevent drive-by spamming); the problem is that I was not trying to post an instance of a U**, which is what this rule is intended to prohibit; I was trying to use the term U** in its own right! To me, it doesn't make sense to block use of this term...

A bug is an feature which does not work as intended. The feature you describe is working as intended, and is therefore not a bug. We are aware that new uses cannot use the word "URL" (among many others).
Anyway, this site uses phpBB3. The VirtualBox devs don't actually develop the forum software, so you'd need to go to a phpBB forum for any feedback on that.
