RFE: Support 4Kn VDI disks

Post by rcpa0 »

Please add support for 4Kn disks. It would help in developing 4Kn capable bootloaders and device drivers. UEFI already has support for 4Kn. I have run my UEFI device driver on a real 4Kn hard disk (I only have one), but having 4Kn VDIs would be much easier to create and debug more varied test scenarios. Thanks for your consideration.

I can't see the point myself. 4K sectors is a horrible short term kludge, obviated by EFI, and needed only by people who boot from a >2TB drive - which must be rare. The assumption that a sector is 512 bytes permeates deeply, seeing as it has been unchanging for 30+ years: I think I can pretty much guarantee that changing that number will cause all manner of bugs.
