imagine you have a virtual machine with the same mac that a physical server.
so when you turn on the virtual machine, you lose the connection to your physical server.

It would be good idea to have the option to set an alert to inform you of the incompatibilities (which you write yourself) at launch a virtual machine.

Not practical. VirtualBox doesn't necessarily know that a MAC address conflicts with something else: it doesn't mess with the business of the host OS. And what about other hosts on the network?

In any case it shouldn't be a problem. The odds against VirtualBox randomly selecting the same MAC as any host NIC are so long that it isn't even worth considering. That means you did it deliberately, which makes it a learning experience for you, not a problem for VirtualBox to address IMHO.
