After much work, my VM works perfectly, and now I'd like to install it on a physical drive.
My question is : how to create an installable archive like an iso ?
Is there a place where this is explained ?
Host : Vista 32bits, guest VM : seven x64 to be installed on the real disk as a dual boot
Thanks for your help
reverse virtualization : vdi to iso
Re: reverse virtualization : vdi to iso
This is whats called v2p migration, look it up with google, ea. vmware convertor, ghost, drivexml can all do this job but its not plain sailing since the hardware will change significantly and the VM might not even boot.

Re: reverse virtualization : vdi to iso
Hello,
I know how to do that with BSD Unixes, but I've had difficulties in the past with some Linux or VMware ESXi systems, which tend to "memorize" things about the systems they were installed into... I never tried with Windows, but i suspect that it would be even more complicated (since you need to fit more drivers than for a text only OS).

You won't do that with an ISO, but you can tell VirtualBox to convert your VDI to a raw disk image, which you'll be able to paste to a physical drive.Galileo wrote:After much work, my VM works perfectly, and now I'd like to install it on a physical drive.

I wrote an article about this (with the added difficulty that I want to be able to perform remote installations, what i call Virtual-to-Remote-Physical, V2RP) that you'll find there:Galileo wrote:Is there a place where this is explained ?
