PUEL vs OSE: which is installed

Post by ChipMcK »

A number of users do not now if they downloaded the OSE version or a PUEL version for their installation.

How about a blurb in the About screen/panel to tell them, especially if a PUEL.

This might(?) make life easier for the Forum moderators and volunteers,
all of which have an infinite reservoir of patience.

Help->About

VirtualBox = VirtualBox PUEL
VirtualBox_OSE = VirtualBox OSE

not hard.

Also release number counts:
~r60000 = PUEL (+-5000)
~r20000 = OSE (+-5000)

Splash page shows a lot too. The OSE has Tux, Beasty and another avatar for OSE systems I think. The PUEL one has the image with the Logo and the company behind it (since 3.2.0, Oracle).

But it does not use "PUEL".

A number of users are desperate when they get to the forums and they are not thinking.
It should be obvious - plain language, no "I think that is what they mean/asking"

Nope, it doesn't. It's a shame. Now we ask if users have USB options in the VM settings, but if USB will ever make it into the OSE version, that won't work either :P.
