Feature Request: Physical Partition instead of Virtual Disk

Post by bguan »

Hi Virtual Box,

Having tried both VMWare and CoLinux, I think Virtual Box is my favorite now.

Anyway, I'm sure someone must have requested this already... as it is available with the full blown version of VMWare.

Basically I would like to have the ability to mount a physical partition on the Host system as a disk on the guest system.

Use Case: I have a dual boot machine with windows and linux, and what I would really like to do is to boot my linux partition in VirtualBox on the windows host, so that when I boot my linux for real I have all the changes I've made in a VM.

Thanks

VirtualBox can present iSCSI remote storage to a virtual machine as a virtual hard disk, although I suspect this is not what you were looking for. Otherwise, I believe that for now you need to use "regular" virtual drives.

VirtualBox 1.4 will be able to do that. Expect it to be released later this week.

How?

Where do I find the option to use physical disks instead of a vdi/vmdk image?

(I'm using 1.4)

Check out the user manual. It's a non trivial process.
