On some platforms - certainly on mine, the floppy write-protect flag is inverted. This means the guest machine can never write to the floppy. The most it can do is write to the floppy buffer when the disc is actually write-protected. If the disc is not write protected it won't even do that, because it thinks it is...
It would be nice if that could be fixed. Using the OSE, the floppy might be the only way to communicate between guest and host if the guest OS isn't very easy to network. I have observed this problem with both Windows and Linux guests, so it's not the guest OS at fault.
