Virtualbox please allow more video memory

Post by Dr.M.ReDa »

as you have guessed from the subject
i am suggesting that virtual box should allow us to increase the video memory more than 128 Mb
why it is so limited
my graphic card supports 1G memory
i should be able to use it
it will really help us in designing and gaming
128 Mb
it's just not enough
Maybe I'm right , Maybe I'm Wrong
Lets See
I'd like to hear your opinions and see your votes
Thanks for listening for my suggestion
and hope we have more Memory

As long as the emulated graphics card is only an archaic one, there is no reason to use video memory above 64MB.
A size of 1GB will make sense if there will be some virtual high power ati or nvidia card sometimes.
Today there is no use for more virtual video memory.

Dear mod

sorry for the inconvenience

----

Dear Hans Eberhardt

i didn't get your point :?

or may be i didn't make mine clear

well the thing is that on Ubuntu

there is no video card supported and the screen resolution is max. 800 * 600

so i just suggested to make the virtuality perfect

our beloved virtualbox make use of the existing hardware

i even don't know if that is possible but thought if a virtual hard disk is done

why not?

hope i made my point clear

thank you for your patience

.
128Mb is the maximum available video memory for a VirtualBox virtual machine at this point in time.

Perhaps you can have a talk to God about some divine intervention. ;-)

That and the fact the it is system memory and not GPU memory.
Really makes little difference how much vRam you have on the graphics adapter at this point.

The 128 MB limit is only for 2D rendering which is enough.

There is no limit for 3D rendering, as you can use all of host's Video RAM for this.

"There is no limit for 3D rendering, as you can use all of host's Video RAM for this."

So how can I use more than 128MB? How can I use all of host's Video Ram? Or even 256MB? I'm using Win XP in dual screen via RDP and 3D is enabled.

thank you from Finland!

When 3D application is running, and 3D acceleration is enabled, it is done automatically.

But not via RDP. Only local screen.

Hello,

I agree there's virtually no necessity to use more than 128MB of RAM (I use only 24 just for 2D-accel) but now, using PowerDVD to check a BluRay rip prior to burning, it states that my video card doesn't meet the specified requirements: 256MB.

So, is there any hidden setting I can touch to make PowerDVD happy and show him 256MB of video ram?

Thank you,
Jordi

Ya'll are missing the point simply because maybe, just maybe, the people have not been specific enough in the request for more virtual video memory.

Go buy world of war craft. And make sure that you buy all the expansions.

WoW will NOT let the installation complete because there is not enough video ram.

The game requires a video card with a bare minimum of 256 MB of memory !

The installation application of wow scans the computer specifications and if it is not the minimum, then the installation is terminated.

So stop acting like you were born all knowing. Be helpful and try to understand others.

It makes no sense to run such applications in a VM.

Else if you could get it installed, it will not work because of the virtual hardware has not enough performance.

Dou you really think you can look a blu ray in a VM?
