I don't know if this is possible currently, but...
I was thinking it would be a "kind" feature if virtualbox could use, of 2 mouses and 2 keyboards connected to a system, one of each [exactly]. Then, with dual monitor, you could have a virtualbox filling one screen, the host of course running on the other, and two people could use one computer at the same time, with no other hardware required.
Thoughts?

Not hard to do with a nested X server like Xephyr.

Interesting. I wonder if VNC and/or synergy have code that might be helpful for it.

I'm not sure if they're totally similar, though, , as in I want to use one keyboard for one window, the other for the other.

You can still attach the keyboard and mouse using USB passthrough. That way, you make sure that the keyboard and mouse are dedicated to the VM and won't leave the Guest OS to interfere with the host.
Just make sure that the VM runs on the primary monitor, in case the secondary doesn't work as it should.

For Linux, you can, as noted before me, use seperate X settings. You can also use the dual monitor setup to create a big desktop (like you can with Windows too, and is needed in case you have Windows as Host). Only downside is that the other user can interfere with the Guest :P.
