Lockable Guests

Post by AndyPagin »

It would be useful to be able to 'lock' a guest so that it cannot be started, at least without having to confirm first. I have a number of guests all with very similar names, but typically I only want to work on one specific guest. Too easy to select the wrong one.

Interesting concept! Enhancement requests can be put on the Bugtracker.

The devs have traditionally rejected such suggestions because it can't be implemented in reality in any worthwhile way. Anyone with a text editor and a scrap of knowledge can edit the settings file and remove any such "lock".

I get the impression that this idea is to stop accidental starts of the wrong VM, not to truly 'lock down' the VM, but to make it so one has to go through an extra 'unlock' step to start the VM.

As a "poor man's tool", you could put the unwanted VMs into a group, to visually distinguish them from the rest. Locking and unlocking would be a simple drag and drop operation then.
