Insert and embed pictures in posts

Hi would like to be able to insert pictures or images using the BBCODE [img][/img] like in other forums. I can insert hyperlinks but no images.
This example is not currently working:

This is by design. The ability to link to offsite images was removed a couple of years ago because Oracle can't control or detect when the remote images are changed for e.g. spam or porn.

In any case we have always prefered direct attachments here on the forums, that way they can never become dead links.

It would be wise to remove the icon in the toolbar (top of message edit) and on the right side, since that doesn't work it should not be publicized like that...

These are the VirtualBox forums. Comments about the design of phpBB should be taken to a phpBB forum. I don't believe it is a subject of great interest to the VirtualBox devs.

I think the forum administrator has disabled image insertion.

Indeed, but the question of which icons are visible, when and where in phpBB is a phpBB discussion.

I'll just point out that [IMG] does work for pictures previously uploaded to the Virtualbox forum through Upload Attachment. (*) So the tag does still work, but only for things on the Virtualbox server. So no need to get rid of the icon. Just the need to use Upload Attachment instead of [IMG], and to crop/resize/PNG the image to get under the forum's 128kB size limit.

* You can see your uploaded attachments by going to your User Control Panel, Manage Attachments tab. Copy the link for a picture shown there, paste between [IMG] tags, voila!

The reason I don't upload pictures to Virtualbox servers is because it may require to be logged in to view them (not allowed to anonymous accounts or guests).

There is no such restriction.
