virtualbox light OS

Post by dims713 »

Hello to all

I would like to know if it was planned or if it was already to create a virtualbox light OS
a very light OS capable of launching virtual machines and using only very few resources, a bit like GRUB or LILO
that would be really great
possibility of storing the OS on a USB key and moving it to different PCs
have the full resource of the computer directly in the virtual machine
as well as many other

To the best of our knowledge on the forum, no.

Virtualbox is a type-2 hypervisor app that runs on top of an OS. To implement what you have suggested, Virtualbox would have to go into the OS business, handling everything an OS normally handles, especially handling device drivers, which is a lot more than only running VMs.

Virtualbox's present owner, Oracle, has a type-1 hypervisor OS that does what you are suggesting, but I think it costs.

One can get a decent low-impact host OS through Linux. Or if Linux isn't familiar to the user, just get a host with a tad more bang and go Windows.
