Relicense VirtualBox to GPLv3 or Apache with linking exception

Post by allenwrench »

If Oracle were to relicense VirtualBox to GPLv3 or Apache it would stop a lot of patent bombs for most of the software patents, unless we only allow code where the underlying patents have expired so a 20-year gap. As it stands its GPLv2 only with no linking exception to the optional CDDL files from Sun Micro/Innotek era.

Though we on the forum could not change the Virtualbox licenses, it would be interesting to see what problems you have found that Virtualbox is suffering from any 'patent bombs'?
