I have macOS Catalina (version 10.15.6) and everytime I try to install Ubuntu on Virtualbox (version 6.1) it crashes. I´ve tried three different Ubuntu versions, 20.04.1, 18.04.5 and 16.04.7. I have attached the error message. Does anyone have a solution to this?
Thanks!

Re: Installing Ubuntu crashes VirtualBox
I am experiencing the same issue. Has anybody found this a solution to this yet?
Re: Installing Ubuntu crashes VirtualBox
I found a solution! If you install an older version of VirtualBox (5.2 instead of 6.1 my case), it works with Ubuntu 20.04.1
Re: Installing Ubuntu crashes VirtualBox
Looks like the best option is to disable audio. It worked for me.
Re: Installing Ubuntu crashes VirtualBox
It does that for me too. Before it crashes it displays the message:
[6.278342] [drm:vmw_host_log [vmwgfx]] *ERROR* Failed to send log
[6.279473] [drm:vmw_host_log [vmwgfx]] *ERROR* Failed to send log
Can someone please help me.

Re: Installing Ubuntu crashes VirtualBox
I can also attest to disabling the microphone in the VM, then starting the VM. This worked for me for Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS on Virtualbox 6.1 running on macOS Mojave.
I was also having the same exact issue with my Kali Linux 2020.3 fresh install crashing. Disabling the microphone enabled that VM to start as well.
I hope this helps others.

Re: Installing Ubuntu crashes VirtualBox
I can confirm that the problem with the crashes is the audio. Once I disabled the audio support, I was able to install Ubuntu 20.04 on VirtualBox 6.1 on OSX 10.15.6 (Catalina).
I have also found that the guest add-on does not work properly in 20.04 under 6.1. For example, the screen resizing just shows a black screen when you resize the window or go to full screen. You have to select a pre-configured size.
Pretty disappointing.
