OS Catalina installed on OS High Sierra looking for opinions and experience.

Hi,
I am trying to install OS Catalina in OS High Sierra in order to keep using my music software . I need to do this due to the high cost of upgrading my music software to work with Catalina. I would like to know the demands it has on the Imac Catalina has as a guest and if it's worth pursuing. I have an i7 Imac with 16 gigs of ram. I could dedicate most of my memory and ram to it once it's opened The plan is to use Catalina with some pretty intensive software like OBS. It would most likely be one app at a time in order to avoid memory overload or crashes. Almost like choosing a startup disk in the olden days of the Macs.

Any opinions or experience would be really appreciated.
