Fixed the problem for me as well! Thank-you very much, I'd never have considered that without seeing this threadUninstalled Intel Power Gadget... and voila... virtualbox starts working.... What happened or what changed, I have no idea.. but intel power gadget seems to be the culprit..

I know this post is several months old now, but I had put solving this on the back burner and forgot about it. Since then and now I've upgraded to Big Sur v11.2.3, and was still having the same issue. Sure enough, I had Intel Power Gadget 3.7.0 installed, and the issue disappeared completely upon uninstalling!
Seems the Intel Power Gadget devs know about the issue and claim it's a problem on VirtualBox's end. See the Intel forum post here: https://community.intel.com/t5/Graphics ... 293#M88666

To be more precise: It's enough to QUIT Intel Power Gadget. No need to uninstall.
