[Solved] screen resolution - VB 5.2 on Sierra MBA

Post by metropical »

the extension pack is installed and shows up under prefs/extensions.
I have display set under prefs to Hint 1920x1280 and have tried a few others.
But I can only get scaled or full screen.
I had previous had it so that I could resize the VB window and the resolution would follow.
But I dunno what I've missed.

We need to see a complete VBox.log, from a complete VM run, where the problem occurs:
  • Start the VM from cold-boot (not from a paused or saved state) / Observe problem / Shutdown the VM (force close it if you have to).
  • With the VM completely shut down (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
  • Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response. See the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form.

Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

I see no evidence that the Guest Additions have been installed. There's no way dynamic display resizing can work without them. See section 4.2 of the user manual.

That's what I thought, but I get this when I try to install again.

ok. figured it out re-reading chap 4.2.
Don't remember going thru that method last time I installed VB (5.2.20 then. 5.2.32 now).
I seem to remember it auto loaded with Windows once I installed it from VB as compared to the VM of Windows.
But .....

Thanks,

Extension pack .not.equal. Guest Additions.

The former is a host plugin adding extra functionality to the host app, such as USB2/USB3 virtual hardware.

The latter is a driver bundle that you install in each guest, to allow the guest OS to access VirtualBox, getting access to graphics acceleration, shared folders, shared clipboard etc.
