Crashing constantly on MacBook Pro 2019 (latest)
Re: Crashing constantly on MacBook Pro 2019 (latest)
Adding another one having constant kernel panics and reboots on a MacBook Pro 2018. I use mainly Linux guests, and the system crashes with any of it, randomly, 50% of the times.
My impression is that it has something to do with the VirtualBox window(s). So far, I never had any kernel panic by launching headless guests.

Re: Crashing constantly on MacBook Pro 2019 (latest)
I am also experiencing similar issues. For my production work I am mostly using openSUSE in a VM (even though I also have Windows XP and 7 as well as Ubuntu, but since the crashes I have left them alone for a while).
What I wanted to pitch in with is that I have been able to reduce the crashing while running the VM by disabling the power management settings in the VM guest. This has not resolved everything, such as frequently crashing when waking up the suspended VM, but at least it doesn't crash on me constantly and randomly all the time.

Re: Crashing constantly on MacBook Pro 2019 (latest)
Unfortunately it only helps so much.
Resuming from saved state causes constant crashes of the entire MacOS. Before upgrading to 10.14.6 I could get away with just pausing the VM. But now that is not working very well either. The VM keeps crashing after I close the lid.
Attached is a crash report if that is of any use, as well as the vbox log.
I am on 10.14.6 with VirtualBox 6.0.10. The guest is openSUSE 15.1 64-bit.

Re: Crashing constantly on MacBook Pro 2019 (latest)
Uff! Life has become quite hard lately with the MacOS updates that have caused Virtualbox to be close to unusable.
I thought that I had figured out some way to keep the crashing away by doing things in a certain order, such as switching display before pausing the VM and closing the lid. Which seemed to work. Until it didn't.
Regarding other software that might be interfering (which is mentioned in other threads) I can say that say that I have not installed anything new since before I upgraded MacOS to 10.14.5 and now to 10.14.6. Obviously there are the regular updates that the apps themselves initiate.
Attached is the latest crash log. Hope it's provides some insight.

Re: Crashing constantly on MacBook Pro 2019 (latest)
For the sake of completeness I want to inform about the latest discovery. Testing various scenarios when I actually am trying to get work done is a slow process.
I wanted to try if Virtualbox would survive if I first switched display and then saved the state (yesterday) so that I today would do it in reverse order before hooking up the external display. Unfortunately I forgot this morning and when I resumed the VM with the external display already hooked in MacOS crashed as usual lately.
However! The saved state of the VM was still intact. And when after rebooting I resumed the VM again it did come up without crashing the host OS. Fantastico!
But probably not consistently reproducible.

Hi,
I just tried to create a VM and as it booted the ISO to install CentOS, it crashed.
I have attached a Vbox log and VBoxBugReport.

Re: Crashing constantly on MacBook Pro 2019 (latest)
Coming back to testing different orders of doing things.
I did actually work to do it in that way, to first disconnect the the external display, then save the state after screen has been resized. Today in reverse order, first resume the VM on the laptop screen, then connect the external display.
No crash!!!
At least not this time.
I did notice something else (there have been many many crashes, yesterday alone I had three). In our office we have a cable network that is fully connected to the intranet and a wifi network that requires VPN for access. So when disconnecting the Ethernet cable it causes MS Onedrive to immediately complain and pop up a dialog. When I click this dialog after having disconnected the external display it crashes the VM immediately. What I think happens is that clicking the dialog switches desktop to some other (maybe to where some MS Office app is active) and that switching is what causes a crash.

Re: Crashing constantly on MacBook Pro 2019 (latest)
Well that didn't last very long.
Attached is the macOS crash log. Happened completely unprovoked while I was working in the VM (openSUSE 15.1 64-bit).

Here is another crash log.
This time it looked like it crashed as soon as that stupid Microsoft reminder to turn on automatic updates popped up when I switched to the laptop display. And I can't even turn the reminder off. Hate it!

Re: Crashing constantly on MacBook Pro 2019 (latest)
Here is my last MacOS crash log. I give up now and have converted my images to Parallels over the weekend.
Been running Virtualbox as my primary platform since 2007 but the latest generation of Macs have really made things difficult. I firmly believe that the problems are mainly hardware related. My previous Macbook Pro (which was from 2014 and which I still use a fair amount with the same VMs) has also been upgraded to Mojave and Virtualbox 6.0.8 without having these problems. Were it not for the inability to upgrade the RAM on the old one I would have returned this 2018 version to the store long ago.
Thank you for a fantastic product!

Re: Crashing constantly on MacBook Pro 2019 (latest)
Hi,
I just tried 5.2.32.
It also crashes. So downgrading does nothing. I notice it crashed on a reboot of the VM if that helps.

Re: Crashing constantly on MacBook Pro 2019 (latest)
I also had constant kernel panics caused by VirtualBox crash ever after I upgraded MacOS 10.14.6.
However I noticed if I launch VMs in headless mode, stability improves ( I haven't had a single crash yet).

Re: Crashing constantly on MacBook Pro 2019 (latest)
i'm having crashes too (already contributed in another thread) but seems oracle is not taking the issue in account at all...
in my case, to reduce crash probability, i need to free up memory (close as many applications as possible) before booting up the VM.
regards,
E
