Failed to attach USB Device Realtek 802.11 NIC to virtual machine

Postby carutherford82 » 17. Jun 2019, 16:24

Hello all. I have been trying to figure this out on my own for a few days but to no avail. I purchased a TL-WN722N V3 TP-Link Nic for use with an ethical hacking course and after several attempts to try to connect the device I have been getting the same error.
Failed to attach the USB device Realtek 802.11 NIC to the virtual machine.

Clicking on the error message gives me the following error details:
Failed to create a proxy device for the USB device. (Error: VERR_SHARING_VIOLATION).

Re: Failed to attach USB Device Realtek 802.11 NIC to virtual machine

SHARING_VIOLATION... Did you install any software on your Mac that works with that NIC? Is your Mac using it at the same time?

Please read the following thread: USB basics and troubleshooting, all of the posts. Especially "memorize" part 1.

If you still have a problem after reading through the whole thing, please follow the advice of the last post, #8: Asking for help and post the information requested. Except the "VBoxManage list usbhost" part of course...
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
