no audio from guest, if second audio device is available

Post by Ernsti »

hello,

Host:
- macOS 10.14.3
- Virtual Box 6.0.4 r128413

Guest:
- Ubuntu 64bit with latest updates (March, 10th 2019)
- 20 GB HD/8 GB RAM / 2 Core / 128MB Graphics / 3D Enabled

i have installed "Boom 3D" on my i mac.
if "Boom 3D" is running, i have a second audio device for output in my host-audio-preferences,
if "Boom 3D" is NOT running, i have only one audio device for output.
if "Boom 3D" ist running on my host and i run the guest,
video in firefox guest (e.g. youtube) is NOT working, and i have NO Audio output.
i tired all available "Audio-Controller"s in the VBox-Settings without success.

if i exit the "Boom 3D" on my host and restart VBox, video and audio is working as expected.
is there a problem, if more than one (internal?) audio device exists on the host?

then i tried the same on a mac mini:

Host:
The host is connected via HDMI to a tv-set.
So i have a second audio device of type "HDMI" in my host-audio-preferences.

Guest:
the same as above

i have NO audio, and firefox ist not able to play videos from youtube.

i think this is a bug, because the demo-version of VMWare-Fusion is working as expected on both machines.

i hope this will be fixed soon. thank you.

I have the same issue with Boom 3d. I have just been closing it before using Virtualbox.
