VirtualBox cannot disable VT-x.

Post by robobox »

I have an NT 4 install on VirtualBox macOS 10.13. I originally discovered this problem on VirtualBox 5.2.16, then upgraded to 6.0 in an attempt to fix it. NT 4 throws an error saying that it HAL.DLL needs MPS 1.1. I was told to disable VT-x. but cannot do so.

That's the Hardware Abstraction Layer for the Intel MultiProcessor Specification. It has nothing to do with VT-x, no matter what you were told. I don't know what choices you made during the NT4 installation, but it seems that you picked the wrong HAL for your settings. But it's definitely not the VT-x. I know for sure, because I've got one generic NT4 image and my old computer that was converted to a VM.

We need to see a complete VBox.log, from a complete VM run, where the problem occurs:
  • Start the VM from cold-boot (not from a paused or saved state) / Observe problem / Shutdown the VM (force close it if you have to).
  • With the VM completely shut down (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
  • Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response. See the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form.
