I'm having the same issue and I'm stumped with it.

I have a vague recollection that some host OS's require the Host-Only network to be in use (the VM using the Host-Only network must be running) before the host's Host-Only Adapter will respond to pings.
Please start a new topic if your VM is running and you still do not get ping response.
