VM Machine Boot Error on Mojave

Post by aliu0130 »

So, I just tried starting my WIN10x64 VM for the first time, but I encountered an error:

Code: Select all

Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)

Make sure the kernel module has been loaded successfully.

where: suplibOsInit what: 3 VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_INSTALLED (-1908) - The support driver is not installed. On linux, open returned ENOENT.
Another error said:

Code: Select all

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Janus(WIN10X64).

The virtual machine 'Janus(WIN10X64)' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1 (0x1).

Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component: MachineWrap
Interface: IMachine {85cd948e-a71f-4289-281e-0ca7ad48cd89}

Why?
If you would like the crash report, tell me.

Take a look at the "sticky" (on the top of the Topics) "Installation fails on 10.13.x (rc=-1908)".
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

It looks like you didn't actually read the post that socratis linked to.

When the VirtualBox installation fails, you need to go to System Preferences -> Security & Privacy and allow installation of software from Oracle. You then have to re-run the VirtualBox installer to get it to install the kernel extensions.

My crystal ball is currently broken. If you want assistance you are going to have to give me all of the necessary information.
Please don't ask me to do your homework for you, I have more than enough of my own things to do.

Before I made the first post, I already did this.
That's why I continued the post.
The first time the installation failed, I went to it and enabled, and there was nothing in the general section, then I enabled the one in the privacy section.
Then I re-ran the installer 3 times, each time deleting the app created.
After the last attempt, I made this post.

There is no need to go to the Privacy section. The setting that you're looking for is in the General section. The timer (yes, there's a 20-30 min timer) may have elapsed.
  1. Reboot the computer (to reset the timer).
  2. Try the installation.
  3. If it fails (which it will) go to System Preferences » Security » General. There's absolutely no point in going to the Privacy one.
  4. Compare what you see with what Apple has: https://developer.apple.com/library/arc ... proval.png
  5. If you're not seeing that, file a bug report with Apple, it's their half-baked security policy that's causing this mess.
  6. Keep us in the loop if the bug gets resolved, so that we can update our OS-installer-bugs troubleshooting guides.
