Trouble to install 64 bits guest on snow leopard host
Hello,
I'have an iMac 10,1 Intel Core 2 Duo with OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard and VBox 4.3.40 v 110317 (last version on this machine).
With VBox, I have an install of Linux Mint 17.3 32 bits which works fine.
I want to install a Linux Mint 19 Tara 64 bits, I've the dmg but the install crash and not begin.
Is it possible on Snow Leopard ?? And if yes, which settings to put ? Thanks

I precise i'have the linuxmint-19-xfce-64bit.iso (and not the dmg).
And when I launch the VM, the install doesn't begin after the ten seconds countdown...

In future please zip your logs - instead of getting around the attachment size limit by breaking the log into chunks.
Why such an ancient version of VirtualBox?VBox.log wrote: VirtualBox VM 4.3.40 r110317 darwin.x86 (Aug 22 2016 15:04:00) release log

...that said your log file shows...
Do you have the option to break into the installer and add this? If that doesn't work, you could always download the pre-existing .vdi file from OS Boxes - Linux Mint and try attaching that to your VM as a starting point.

We have seen a couple of these recently and they seem to relate to the mitigations put into the Linux kernel for Spectre and Meltdown. One of the potential solutions is to add pti=off to the Linux command line.VBox.log wrote:00:00:46.027895 !! Guru Meditation -1668 (VERR_PGM_INVALID_CR3_ADDR)

My crystal ball is currently broken. If you want assistance you are going to have to give me all of the necessary information.
Please don't ask me to do your homework for you, I have more than enough of my own things to do.

Thanks , I don't know how to break into the installer ; I've download the Linux-Mint_18.3_Xfce-VB-64bit.7z .vdi file, and now what i'm doing with, i'm pointing the VM to this file as a iso ?andyp73 wrote:...that said your log file shows...

Re: Trouble to install 64 bits guest on snow leopard host
OK, sorry for the offsite url, it was an answer to my own question about how to do with osboxes
Now, i've installed via osboxes Mint Sylvia xfce 64 bits, it works in the VBox and i've done the updates,
but the guest additions of the VB 4.3.40 don't install properly, so i've not a shared folder and the good screen resolutions,
is it possible to obtain the guest additions a different way ?
configuration : host snow leopard, VB 4.3.40, guest Mint Sylvia xfce 64
thanks

Re: Trouble to install 64 bits guest on snow leopard host
Thank you that solved my problem.
I've now a 64 bits guest (LinuxMint Sylvia 17.3 Xfce) who works fine with Snow Leopard Host.
I've always some questions about the guest additions but I've opened a new topic which is now in Linux Guests.
